An Approach of Color Image Compression using Discrete Wavelet Transform

Image Compression is an essential technology for storing and transmitting of digital images. In this Paper, we have described the color Image Compression technique based on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) algorithm and reconstructed in gray-scale image using Inverse DWT. This is simple and effective method to compress an image. The algorithm of image compression technique using JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group), BMP (Bitmap Pictures) and PNG (Portable Network Graphics) color images implemented through Matlab Software. The proposed technique Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) presents compression of color images efficiently without much compromising the quality of images.
